SCHUYLKILL COUNTY JUNIOR GOLF
ASSOC. 2008 NEWSLETTER

          The 2008 Mini Tour will kick off on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at Hidden Valley. This event, like all other
Junior Golf events, is open to any resident of Schuylkill County. Medals are awarded for first place in each
division. This year, the division brackets will again be ages 11 and under (scored for 9 holes); ages 12-13;
14-15 and 16-18. Golfers may participate in any or all of the mini tour events.

          The Championship tournament will be held on August 4 & 5, 2008, at Hidden Valley. Tee times begin
on August 4 at approximately 11:00 a.m. Golfers will be flighted by scores, for the championship round
on August 6. Medals are awarded for first, second and third place in each division. The winner of the Senior
Division (age 16-18 bracket), Championship flight, is also awarded a $300 scholarship.
Pre-registration for the championship tournament is requested, but not required. It is suggested that you
arrive at the designated golf course ½ hour before the start time. Contact Howard Merrick (570) 622 6815

Help Wanted: Junior Golf is in need of volunteers to help with the mini tour and the championship. No experience
necessary—people needed to register players, total scores and be rangers. If you are willing to help, please contact
Howard Merrick (570) 622 6815. It is not necessary that you be a golfer or that you remain at the tournament for the entire
day. Any help will be appreciated!

PARENT & SPECTATOR BEHAVIOR CODE: We encourage parents/friends/relatives of the under 12
participants to accompany their children. For all other age groups, spectators must stay 20 yards
away from players at all times on the course. They may talk to players at the nine hole break.

SCHOLARSHIP

Each year the Schuylkill County Junior Golf Association awards scholarships to a graduating senior who
has participated in the junior golf program. The scholarship is $1200, payable in four annual
awards in the amount of $300 each. If you are a recent grad, and have not received an application,
please call Andy or Sandy Palokas at (570) 622 6602

The requirements considered are: 1. You must be a graduating senior. 2. You must have participated in the Jr. Golf
program as a tournament player. 3. You must be accepted into an accredited school of higher learning. 4. You must
complete a Scholarship Application. Application deadline is June 30, 2008.

The scholarships are awarded based on need, regardless of his/her score in the golf tournament. The
recommendations are made by a local accounting firm, and are forwarded directly to the recipient’s
school for the winter term. Should you have any questions, please contact
